Everest trekking begins on the flight from Kathmandu (1350m) to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla (2860m). There are no roads accessible direct to Lukla so the only way is by plane or 3 more days walk from Salleri (1138m), the district headquarter of Solukhumbu.
The road distance from Kathmandu to Salleri is 266km, which takes 8-9 hours drive.
